Small Family Wedding with Advance Disco

Last May our Advance Disco played at New House Farm in the Lorton Valley, Cumbria.

We are booked to play for the Bride & Groom’s 30 guests until midnight.

Priot to arrival I was thinking about presentation ideas, because New House Farm is a large barn with a length of about 25 meters. The wedding party would be like “Ladybirds in a shoe box.”

However, on arrival Hazel (the owner) met us and said the wedding guests are ready for you in the New Barn.

It was a beautiful evening with the sun drenching the interiors.

On entering the barn, the Bride came over and greeted us. Which took us by suprise because (to be honest) Brides seldom say hello (or even thank you once finished.)

But here we are speaking to the bride! Generally chatting about her eccentric playlist, and their amazing day so far at New House Farm.

It was good to be introduced, because you get a sense to the general direction you can take the party.

As I hadn’t played in the new build barn, the bride was happy to set the disco up anywhere. I ruled out corners, the door and fire place areas, this left two remaining choices; either facing the sun, or with the sun behind us.  Pretty easy choise facing the sun. Otherwise I would not be able to see the laptop and DJ controller screens.

It was a simple 20 minute setup, LiteConsole Go booth with two baton lights on either side, Evolve speakers, and a pair of DJ lights tucked in a corner.

We started the evening in day light with Halestorm’s Beautiful With You.

Progressing afterwards with Celine Dion’s Because You Love Me for the bride and her mum, with guests joining in

Just a little later the fun began after the Bride & Groom with a few of their guests improvised some dance moves to Diggy Diggy Hole by Wind Rose.

Next everybody was up dancing and singing aloud to Don’t You Want Me by the Human League and The Best from Tina Turner.

More dance moves followed with raunchy fun bum shuffles, etc to Britney’s Toxic.

Rocky Horror, Mr Brightside, Wham, Smiths, and a number of other songs we hadn’t played before had everybody dancing.

At the end of the evening we were thanked by the Bride & Groom, and a number of guests.

After take-down, Hazel commented, “You worked hard tonight, and made a  wonderful party atmosphere.”
