Halston Hotel, Carlsile
This was our first wedding at the Halston Hotel, Carlisle.
Once the old post office in the centre of Carlisle, and now one of the cities most popular wedding venues.
It is a quirky venue, with the bar located behind the DJ setup and a white LED-lit dance floor in front. The acoustics are excellent, and the venue’s downlighting is bright and powerful.

Brierywood Hotel, Windermere
We played our first wedding at the Brierywood Hotel in 2002.
It is a charming, intimate hotel with a function room measuring approximately 5 × 8 metres, which opens through double doors into a larger adjoining space.
The staff are welcoming and attentive, even providing coffee for suppliers. A sound limiter is in place, and causes no issues, as powerful volume is unnecessary.

Washington Central Hotel
Our first event at the Washington Central Hotel was a wedding in 1990.
We have been visiting ever since to provide coverage for their resident DJ.
The function suite is located on the second floor and is a long rectangular space measuring approximately 10 × 35 metres, with a ceiling height of 2.4 metres.
The space can also be divided into three smaller rooms: the Anvil, the Forge, and the Smithy. We have performed here with 270 guests present. The stage itself is compact, standing approximately 2 metres high and 1.7 metres deep. Fortunately, Advance Discos can connect directly to the venue’s in-house sound system, allowing valuable stage space to be dedicated to lighting and visual effects.
This Washington central is quirly with its colour-coordinated star ceiling.

River Hidden Barn
This River Hidden Barn is certanly quirky. The barn in set in its own grounds, with a river as its only neighbour.
It is a rectangular space measuring approximately 11 × 25 metres, with a ceiling height of 5 metres.
A balcony spans the entire length of the room, while the disco setup is positioned centrally in front glass windows opersite the bar.
The barn, with its rustic bench-style seating, can accommodate approximately 120 guests.
The concrete dance floor is also ideal for creating dramatic dry ice effects. It is possible to connect directly to the venue’s in-house sound system, although it is best used as infill rather than the primary PA. A tip: avoid positioning your DJ setup in a corner, as it can make the DJ appear disconnected from the crowd. A central setup helps distribute the energy evenly across the room and encourages guests to use the entire dance floor, rather than leaving one side of the barn empty.
